Scrapbooking – A Great Snow Day Activity

If you’re a parent, you know how stressful your child’s Snow Day can be. While it may seem a huge relief for your son or daughter, you can be caught stuck with the task of keeping the day interesting.

Scrapbooking is a great indoor activity that any member of your family can enjoy. In addition to being an entertaining, fun experience for your kids, scrapbooking is a way for you to store and cherish your favorite memories. Hey! While you’re at it, be sure to take pictures of all of the fun you’re having! Then, you can start a Snow Days Scrapbook of your very own.

Even when the weather looks frightful, remember that has interesting and enjoyable projects for anyone in your family. So on your next Snow Day, curl up with some cocoa, build a fire, and make some memories with your children.

Don’t Be Embarrassed, Me & My Family Take Pictures of the Turkey, Too!

I know it sounds silly – I know it sounds crazy – but one thing I make sure to do every Thanksgiving is take a picture of the Turkey!  Yes, I’m the person who makes everyone wait to dig in, just so I can get a picture of the bird and all the fixings to go along with it.  Get frustrated if you wish, but I know you have the same desire to document that perfect turkey for future generations to look at and wonder, “Why in the world would you take a picture of the turkey?!?”

I’m sure you’ll be asking yourself the same question at some point.  But has the excuse you’ll need to give into your turkey photography desires!  Use the picture of the turkey as the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving Scrapbook!

You may be thinking, “Isn’t Thanksgiving all about family?”  At it’s foundation, it certainly is.  But try surprising your dinner guests this Thanksgiving with hot dogs and apple sauce.  I bet they’ll have a  nervous breakdown if they don’t see that bird!  The food isn’t necessarily the true symbol of Thanksgiving, but it is the part that brings everyone to the table.

Seriously Scary Halloween Scrapbooking!

Halloween is the most delightfully spooky time of year.  There are ghouls and goblins everywhere, searching for candy in a house to house mission to collect the most sugary goodness! With all these fiendish characters running about, it can be difficult to remember which little ones already came to your door.  If you want to remember each creepy crawly that comes for candy at your home, break out the camera and Scrapbook Supplies.  You’re going to make a Seriously Scary Halloween Scrapbook!!!

First you have to prepare yourself.  Have the camera ready and charged. If you’re using a traditional camera, have a lot of film on hand, because you’ll have a long night of photo ops ahead of you.  When the Trick-or-Treaters come to the door, have them do a trick, have them sing a song, do a little dance, or tell a joke (your candy doesn’t come cheap!), and take a couple of cute, and scary, pictures!

Don’t just photograph your ghoulish house guests – go out into the night!  You and your neighbors put a lot of time into decorating, so take pictures of all the scary houses in your neighborhood.  The world looks much different on Halloween, so get some pictures of the people out on the streets.  Pictures like these will give your scrapbook the variety needed to keep it from looking like a simple collection of monsters!

Prepare yourself this Halloween season and you’ll have a fun Scrapbook to look at with friends for many years.  With a little effort, it is sure to be boo-tiful!

Keep Your Vacation Photos Fresh

Like most travelers, you likely take pictures and collect cute or funny postcards from your vacation destination. They’re fun to look at when you get home, but what happens to them after a week? Are they stashed in a desk drawer, in a shoe box in the closet, left in the glove compartment of your car, or do you just plain lose them? In any case, you can never find them when you want to show them off. Make it easier on yourself and organize all those vacation memories in a Vacation Scrapbook that you can leave on the coffee table as a testament to your travels!

Memory Scrapbooks has a great selection of scrapbooks for your vacation photos and all the little knick-knacks that you brought back. If you just got home from a tropical location, this Palm Tree 12×12 Scrapbook would be perfect to keep all those pictures of you lounging by the beach and swimming in the blue ocean. Tiny trinkets can be tucked inside this gorgeous Photo Box.

Just got back from a big city like Chicago, Boston, or NYC? Pack all those sightseeing photos or the pictures from the night life in this City Maps 12×12 Scrapbook so you will always remember the sights and sounds!

If you organize your vacation photos in a scrapbook, you’ll always have a good story in great condition at the ready!

Welcoming Fall – Pictures And All!

The perfect end to Summer is the beginning of Fall! While I will miss the warmth of August, I am excited to welcome Fall delights like Apple Cider and Halloween. Halloween not only brings out the goblins and ghouls – the cameras are bringing ghost-like flashes to the dark as well!

Halloween pictures are, by far, my favorite kind. Who doesn’t love to play pretend? Especially when it involves candy! If you are lucky enough to live in a neighborhood with lots of children, don’t forget to stock up on treats and keep your porch light on. If you are a city-dweller, or live in an area without many children, consider hosting a Halloween party for all your friends and family. Require that they dress up, and keep the camera handy!

Halloween is about reinvention, so take this opportunity to think outside the scrapbooking box. Pick the Scrapbooks that suit your style instead of the holiday. Add embellishments that don’t make sense! Put all the pictures in upside-down! Have fun with it! We can get too bogged down in structure, and scrapbooking is founded on creativity and self-expression.

Do you have any other fun ways to think outside the scrapbooking box? Please share them here!

Bidding Summer A Fond Farewell!

Nobody likes to admit these things, but Summer is officially on her way out. However, instead of drowning my sorrows with one last glass of frozen lemonade, I am going to gather together what summer left behind – lots of beautiful photos! Whether you took an extravagant vacation, or stayed poolside at home, you are sure to have at least a handful of fun shots of friends, family and goofy pets!

I like to put Summer scrapbooks together outside – it adds that extra touch of authenticity for me. If you have the space, grab your supplies and head out to the porch, deck or local park. If not, pull up a seat by the window on a sunny afternoon.

Summer Scrapbooks

I have also found that some of the best embellishments are right in front of you – and free! On your next outing, grab some berries, twigs or leaves in a small box. Start with an archival scrapbook, like this summery Mulberry Scrapbook, to make sure your pictures are safe, and go cover crazy! Imagine this beautiful pressed flower scrapbook turned 3-D by what you found on the lawn! And the best part? If the twigs or leaves don’t stand the test of time, you can easily replace them with a quick trip to the yard. Something wonderful and new is always happening. It’s the beauty of nature, and why we scrapbook in the first place!
